u20s win at Hearts

Our development squad picked up their first away league win of the season, and only second win, with this comfortable victory against Hearts at Ochilview on Monday night (6th November).

This was an important game for us and with a more experienced team than normal, due to Grant Gillespie making his long awaited comeback from injury, his last appearance for us having been in the win at Hibs in August. Massimo Donati also played, as he missed Saturday through suspension, and it’s a fortnight till our next first team game. Steven Boyd, needing a bit more game time, played too.

Skippered by Ronan Hughes, there wasn’t a lot in the opening half hour at all, few chances of note, but the game being played at a decent pace.

In the 37th minute we got a penalty when Ross Cunningham was fouled by Aaron Reid just inside the area, and Ross duly drilled home the spot kick.

There was a great move early in the second half with Kelly, Steven Boyd and Tierney, but it was cleared. At the other end Darren Jamieson did superbly to deny McDonald and Currie with two quick stops. We extended our lead in the 78th minute when Marc Kelly burst tghrough, got round the keeper, but then was about to be thwarted by a defender before shooting, so he passed back to Ross Cunningham who was running at pace towards the penalty area and Ross blasted home a ferocious shot. In the final minute Hearts had one off the bar and off the line.

A good, comfortable win. Grant Gillespie played an hour and felt fine afterwards.

Of the other longer term injuries recently, Shaun want hopes to be ready for the next u20s game, while Ali Crawford has resumed training.

Accies – Jamieson, Hughes (c), Quitongo, Donati, Wilson, Gillespie (J Boyd 61), Cunningham, McCann (Kelly 45), Tierney (Smith 70), S Boyd, Breen. Unused subs O’Halloran, R Crawford, Connelly
