U20s start with a win

Our u20s got their SPFL Development League season underway with a win against Inverness CT on Wednesday afternoon. From finishing last season in 3rd place, our highest ever finish in the top division’s reserve set-up, our young squad of Academy players, with the addition of up to five non u20 players depending on first team selections, injuries etc, will again look to play attacking and exciting football this season.

We took the lead in the 2nd minute after Carlton Morris was sent tumbling on the right side of the box, and he duly dispatched the penalty beyond Hoban. Boyd then headed past from a Tierney cross, Tierney was then himself denied before he doubled our lead with a nicely placed shot in the 28th minute.

ICT troubled on occasion, but Alan Martin was ever alert to the threats. Our players were causing problems with good passing in and around the box to create chances, and we netted a 3rd goal in the 65th minute when Greg Docherty scored after fine work by Boyd. we made it 4-0 in the 72nd minute when Ryan Tierney’s cut back from the left was unfortunately sent flying beyond his own ‘keeper by Cammy Gilchrist for an own goal.  Tierney and Morris continued to come close but it finished a comfortable 4-0.

Accies: Martin, Reilly, MacDonald (Hughes 45), C Granger, Want, MacKinnon (Simpson 63), Boyd, Docherty (c), Tierney, Kurtaj (Cunningham 68), Morris. unused subs Harrison, Gutsul, Kelly, Marshall. Referee – Colin Steven.

Our next game is away to St Johnstone, Tuesday 18th August, 6pm at McDiarmid Park
