It’s been quite a week for Ross Cunningham. Accies web reporter Mark Gillespie caught up with the Accies scorer following the draw with Hibs.

RC: “Obviously it’s been great to get a new deal during the week and to come on and get the goal. I’m confident taking the penalties. I’ve been the penalty taker the majority of this season. I knew as soon as the ref pointed to the spot that I was going to take it.”

This was the response we needed after such heavy loss before the break?

RC:“We wanted the game to come right away and were just itching to get back playing. It’s a good response today but we’d have preferred to get three points, but it was a good performance, all in all.”

It’s a sign of great confidence from the manager, coming on to inject some life into the team and get the goal?

RC: “He’s shown a lot of faith not just in me, but in youth as a whole since he’s come to the club. He gave me my first start and got me on today so pleased to repay him with the goal.”

We dug in and fought back from behind again. It just shows the spirit and attitude at the club?

RC: “Everybody in that dressing room fights for one another. We’re a good group, we all get on.  In previous years maybe we didn’t know how to grind out draws and points. We’ve now found a way to do that and stick at it as a team.”

Can this be the season we avoid the dogfight at the bottom?

RC: “Definitely. We’ve got a strong squad. You can see there’s a lot of quality and experience mixed with youth. The last few years have been a bit stressful down at the bottom fighting. Even if that comes to pass we always manage to finda way to stay in the league.”

That’s seven goals for the season in league and cup. Do you have a target in mind?

RC: At the start of the season I was asked that. I never really set myself a target because I wasn’t sure how often I would play. If I get 10 I’d be absolutely delighted. I want to chip in with a few assists too because I haven’t got any yet.”

“My main aim is to get a few more starts. I’m still only 21 and Hamilton showed faith in me with the new deal, so it’s just about biding my time. I’m ready to play whenever the manager needs me”
