New Signing | Alex Penny

Hamilton Academical Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of 21 year old defender Alex Penny from Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee.

Penny, born in England but with Welsh youth international honours, joins from the English League One side on a 2 year deal until summer 2020.

Penny becomes Accies’ first signing of the summer window and manager Martin Canning was delighted with the addition:

”Alex is quick, strong and has the athleticism to operate at centre back, full back or wing back. He has experience of League One football in England and is of an age where we believe he can develop further here  in the Scottish Premiership with Hamilton Accies.”

Canning added: ”Once Alex became available we knew there would be a lot of interest, so we’re delighted to get it over the line. We’ve been working really hard to get the right players in and it’s something we will continue to do over the coming weeks as we look to strengthen the squad.”

The young defender had signed for The Posh from Nuneaton Town last summer for a fee which was a club record received by the non-league side. The move happened shortly after Penny had graduated from the V9 Academy; incidentally alongside Accies’ January signing Mickel Miller.

Penny will join up with his new team-mates for pre-season training at the end of June.
