Accies web reporter Mark Gillespie managed to have a quick word with goal scorer Lewis Smith following the 3-1 win against Clyde….

Could you talk me through your first Accies goal?

“It felt amazing if I’m being completely honest. Daz had just flicked it on and I saw the space, got the ball, turned and put it in the bottom corner.”

Is that part of your game that you hope to bring to the side this season? An attacking edge?

“Hopefully. When I get on the ball I always like to run at defenders. The gaffer has been supportive and said for me to do exactly that. That feels really good.”

It was a very good performance from you tonight. How do you feel about the coming season?

“I’m feeling really positive. I’m hoping that we can kick on from the game tonight as it was obviously far from great on Saturday. I felt that tonight’s performance was much better from us and hopefully we can now kick on and have a good season.”

And do you hope to get more involved on Saturday against Partick Thistle?

“Yes, definitely. Although that’s completely up to the gaffer but I’m hoping that he picks me.”

What’s the aim for this season? Is it survival or moving on to a bit more now?

“The gaffer just said that we’ll aim to do better than previous seasons and I think that’s the target for us now. Just push on and don’t stand still.”

It was a hard fought win tonight at times and Clyde did manage topushAccies in the first half.

“Yes, they did. The first half wasn’t good enough from us and the gaffer had a wee bit of a go at us for it. But I thought that we gave a good account of ourselves in the second half and were able to push forward much more. We then got a second goal but unfortunately when they pulled one back we dropped back a wee bit. Thankfully we got a third and were comfortable after that.”
