Accies Head Coach Brian Rice believes no excuses can be made for his side after they lost 3-1 to Annan Athletic.

Rice said: “I am totally embarrassed, I have never been this embarrassed. Two of the goals came from set-plays, it wasn’t great play by Annan but individual mistakes which cost us here tonight.”

After making a number of changes from Friday’s match against Hibs, the Accies Head Coach insisted the players who came in should have done better. He said: “These players are premiership players, they should be on that pitch tonight and winning games like these let me make that clear. It is embarrassing not to.

“I stand here most weeks and I’m held accountable, today the players have to share that I’m not going to make excuses. Individual mistakes are what have cost us here tonight.”

Rice also called on his strikers to step up in the side’s hunt for goals. He said: “I haven’t had a striker score a goal for us all season. We are giving them the opportunities it is up to them to take them.”

The Accies Head Coach and his players have a quick turnaround and opportunity to set the record straight as they prepare for the visit of Ayr on Saturday.

Rice insisted no one’s place in the team is secure. He said: “I need to go away and think about who I will pick and what is my strongest team to get a result on Saturday.”
